every fiber of her being revolts at the idea of asking him for help. so she can't. so she hasn't. a dragon's pride is an insufferable thing, as KING WAYLAND likes to remind her every so often, but a woman is not a woman without her vices.

so she has Gwendolyn Conway keep tabs on his schedule, and asks casually after his comings and goings, and eventually she sets herself up in sapphire's training facilities around thirty minutes before he's set to arrive.

sweat licks her skin. she's beating on a training dummy, letting herself slide into her body, feeling the warmth of her muscles and the strength as she sends a palm strike out and cracks the dummy under its chin.

her hands drop to her sides. she considers him and then stoops down to snag her water bottle, drinks greedily to shove off the anger that still festers at the sight of him. king may have reconciled with his own emotions on the matter, but she's too possessive for her own good.

"aren't many people who want to hit me back now," she says and looks down at her hands. a patch of golden scales has grown on the flat of her wrist; bits of them rub the skin around her knuckles and the surrounding flesh is red with irritation.

"something to do with blasting one of them apart with air."

"for old times' sake," she repeats with a wry smile, despite herself. he killed one of her flygon that day - drove an earth spike straight through its midsection, near bisecting it completely. but the anger there is gone; he'd been protecting himself, after all.

she needs the person who can kill with pinpoint accuracy, where a flick of his wrist is as thoughtless as breathing. the storms require nearly all of her concentration and even then, most of the time she's grasping at wisps.

unless she is very, very angry.

"give me my sygna suit and my bowblade and try to call me rusty," she says and then grits her teeth, neck flushing with embarrassment, "but i'm useless when i rely on my powers."

"never thought i'd live to hear you say anything in my defense," she says offhandedly as she looks down at her scarred hands. it's been some time since her last transformation and yet they linger. she remains silent. that stupid, stubborn part of her doesn't want him to know all the ways he can work around her.

all the ways he can get past her defenses to break her.

"i've made thunderstorms. and...heat. but that's more difficult. the storms, i mean. the air feels more natural." she stretches her fingers taut and then pulls. a breeze rushes over her shoulders, whipping her hair across her cheeks.

"i ripped through a tree the size of lyune's leg with one of the blasts."

it's hard to say the words, i don't know to him. especially when it comes to something like this. especially because his powers come so innately to him.

is that envy, little dragon?

she shoves the thought away.

"no, it's not like that. i can't control fire or water or anything like that. just air. i can make the storms and i can draw from them, but i've only ever done it twice. the one time i tried on purpose - " she couldn't even manage a cloud.

just air sounds so vague and leaves too much unsaid. perhaps there is nothing else to be said. perhaps freya morningstar has little knowledge over her powers and even less of a grasp. she won't outright admit it but he wouldn't either.[break][break]

so helpful. so incredibly, stupidly helpful. she tries and fails to keep the flicker of irritation off her face. she thinks i'd love to see him get slapped in the back of the head with wind, but regretfully, and possibly for the best, that does not happen. nothing happens, except her eye twitches a bit.

she turns her back, stalks a few paces, and then whirls back around, arms up and then settling back into a light defensive pose.

"push me," she orders.

anticipation nestles in her throat and her blood sings in her veins. his wrist flicks, but the movement is already in her periphery, wild gaze darting towards the ground that is an instant away from betraying her.

when the spike emerges, that anticipation evolves into adrenaline and she staggers backward, reeling for footing as the winds race in a frenzy around her.

she stares hungrily at him.

"as far as i need to go."
